In the last two posts, we looked at average assets per person and average liabilities per person, so we can now combine both of those to get average net worth per person:
While net worth has increased rapidly since the onset of the pandemic, it has risen even faster for the 1% (as they hold the greatest allocation of equity):
The next 9% have done pretty good as well:
And, the effect is more muted for the 50th to 90th percentile of wealthy:
Finally, we have the bottom 50%, who have a very different looking chart:
It’s hard to imagine that the average net worth of half the people in the U.S. almost went negative following the Financial Crisis! Just goes to show how bad that recession really was.
