The USD/Euro exchange rate hits parity for the first time in twenty years
Not since 2002 have the two currencies been on an equal footing
I don’t often cover currency exchange rates but this is something we haven’t seen in a while. For twenty years now, you’ve needed more than a dollar to get a single euro. But, now, it’s one to one for the first time in twenty years:
While this isn’t that interesting in the grand scheme of things, round numbers make for popular headlines. Back in 2016 the dollar and euro got really close to parity as well! Though, close isn’t the same as even and it is now truly even. Now we get to watch if the dollar becomes even stronger!
Waiting for the Euro and USD to hit parity reminds me of that scene in The Office where everybody is in the conference room and Michael is talking about something but nobody is paying attention to him. They are watching the DVD screensaver on the TV which is a square that bounces off the edges but they are fascinated to see if it can go flush into one of the corners.
