The world is changing
It’s sometimes easy to think that things that have worked the way they have “always” worked will continue to do so forever. Even when we are faced with continuous evidence to the contrary, it’s more comforting to believe that anything “not normal” is temporary rather than, in fact, a new, more permanent, normal.
The world is changing. And, we make a choice every day to either accept our evolving circumstance or let our ego rationalize away reality and delve us further from the truth.
Surprise and shock are warning signs that we weren’t paying enough attention, that we have a disconnect between what we think the world is and what it really is.
Data, charts, metrics. These aren’t enough. They are meaningless if we choose to recognize the wrong context. They are useless if we choose to ignore the change around us. But, most importantly, they are destructive if we choose to use them with a blatant disregard for reality.
With conscious effort to recognize and accept the big picture as it is, with hard work to analyze and fully understand the details, we can make better decisions and steer ourselves toward better outcomes. And, with better outcomes for ourselves, comes greater opportunity to help others and nudge this forever changing world in a positive direction.
Let’s make sure we always choose wisely.
