Yesterday, I mentioned that I was starting a new daily section that highlights one stock with lots of helpful metrics. So, today I’ll introduce the first version and few metrics and, over the next few days, add more metrics and briefly explain those as well. Let’s start with the largest company by market capitalization, Apple:
Again, I am keeping this very simple to start because each day I want to build on this metric card and make sure each piece is explained. Today is pretty self explanatory.
I’ve got the company name and ticker in the top left and the as of data date in the top right. Then, four simple price metrics based on the as of date: closing price, 52-week high, 52-week low, and range (just the 52-week high minus the 52-week low). I think these are common price metrics for a reason - it’s helpful to know where you are at today (obviously) but also where that price is in relation to recent ups and downs. Just below those, I have market capitalization, which is just price times the number of outstanding shares. All pretty basic stuff.
To the right of that, I went through a few chart variations but settled on the last 50 trading days. Since we already have the range for the last 52 weeks, I chose a more recent window (effectively two-ish months) to visualize the price movement.
And that’s it for today! Easy stuff. Tomorrow, I’ll start adding some more metrics that should be a little more interesting and explain all of those.
As always, please send any suggestions or recommendations - this will definitely be an evolving process!
