Yesterday was the seventh purchasing round of the 2021 investment schedule. I’ll first cover the positions and then go through a bit of the thought process behind it.

Some Qualitative Thoughts
This was a really small purchasing round. In terms of the number of purchases, it was on par with my first round at the beginning of the year, which was the smallest round based on the number of purchases. However, in terms of how little I invested nominally, it was by far the smallest round.
The main reason I held off on buying a lot here isn’t because I think the market is about to turn down or anything but rather because I’ve been somewhat uncertain about where to invest! I’ve been doing a ton of research but, at the moment, don’t have any particular conviction about any names, sectors, or styles. I’m still somewhat scarred from the fourth investment round, where I didn’t feel very enthusiastic about the plays and they all did extremely poorly shortly thereafter. So, I’m happy to be patient in the short term and have extra cash until the next good idea (or market dip) comes along.
In regards to the purchases, these are all companies that I’ve invested in previously (which is a first for an investing round). This was driven by the fact that I didn’t have super strong feelings about anything new and also because I like all of these companies still and they are down from my original purchasing price. The nice part about doing a lot of research on stocks is that, when they do go down, it feels more like an opportunity than something to panic over.
This is especially true of EBS, which had some bad news come out today and dropped 13% today! I was actually so excited to buy it that I got in a little early before it fully bottomed out. I planned to buy it anyways prior to the bs news but bumped the purchase size a little bit to take advantage.
At this point, I’m starting to build up a solid cash position. So, there is a part of me that is kind of hoping for a bit of a market pull back. If not, performance is going to suffer unless my current holdings really outperform. Anyways, we shall see! I’m looking forward to two more weeks of research and market developments before the next round!
