Two classic characteristics that are used to describe certain fund styles are value versus growth and market capitalization. There are also styles in between that blend these characteristics in different ways. And, you can invest in your style of choice through a number of different funds. For example, here are tickers from Vanguard that cover all nine potential options:
Now, some people get very picky about what stocks or portfolios they want to set up in regard to these style options. For me, I try to be a bit more pragmatic and instead invest where their might be opportunity to get better deals on a relative basis. So, in the next few posts, we will look at several ways to analyze those potential opportunities for outperformance.
